Empagliflozin is a novel, potent and selective SGLT-2 inhibitor, improves glycaemic control and features of metabolic syndrome in diabetic rats.
1.Empagliflozin can be used for type 2 diabetes in combination with diet and exercise.
2.Empagliflozin reduces the plasma glucose level by reducing the reabsorption of glucose by the kidney, thereby increasing the excretion of glucose in urine.
3.The common side effects of Empagliflozin include urinary tract infection, inguinal fungal infection and arthralgia. Rarer but more serious side effects include inguinal skin infection, called Fournier gangrene, and a type of diabetes ketoacidosis the blood sugar level is normal. Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
